After months of preparation and intense work, the team at St. Leonhard Gymnasium Aachen has demonstrated impressive skills in robotics, programming and problem solving. The Aachen school has been taking part in the robot competition for children and young people since 2012.
The World Robot Olympiad in Germany, coordinated by the association Technology inspires eV, spans four different competition categories and several age groups. Last year, the St. Leonhard Gymnasium competed in the discipline "RoboSports Tennis" and achieved respectable fifth and sixth places in the final in Chemnitz. This year, the German final, in which 122 teams took part, took place over two days at the Freiburg exhibition center. Here, one team again managed to advance to the final and win the coveted first place.
In "RoboSports Tennis", two Lego robots per team compete against each other on a special plate. Your goal is to use programming to launch small ping-pong balls into your opponent's court. A match lasts two minutes, and the team whose robots successfully place the most balls in the opposing field wins. Although the concept may seem simple, it requires highly complex programming work to make the robots fit for the task.
