The GRÜN Software Group GmbH is actively committed to environmental and species protection. Since last summer, two beehives have been located on the roof of its Aachen headquarters. Each of the two colonies contains approximately 40.000 to 60.000 bees, which play an important role in the pollination of plants in the region. The project is being carried out jointly with Caritas Operations and Workshops GmbH (CBW) and yours CariBees Initiative implemented.
Biodiversity and social benefits
Honeybees pollinate around 80% of our cultivated and wild plants, making them essential for biodiversity and securing crop yields. At the same time, they are threatened worldwide by climate change, environmental toxins, and habitat loss. With our beehives, we are setting an example for the protection of local bee populations. However, the project has not only ecological but also social benefits: The bee colonies are cared for by a professional beekeeper and CBW employees, who take care of their maintenance, honey harvesting, and processing. This provides people with assistance with meaningful work and valuable knowledge about sustainable beekeeping.
A single bee colony can produce up to 40 kilograms of honey per year – depending on the season and flower availability. The honey harvested by the CariBees is processed and bottled locally. This creates a sustainable product with a social impact – regional, inclusive, and ecologically valuable.
