After a two-year break due to the pandemic, 2022 is finally happening again Christmas singing at the Tivoli in Aachen instead of. The GRÜN Software Group supports the event again as a sponsor. However, because of the final game at the soccer World Cup this year, for the first time it will not traditionally take place on the fourth Sunday in Advent, but on Wednesday 21 December 2022.
For the eighth time, the Christmas carols will take place on the Tivoli. organizer is creatEvent Christian Mourad in cooperation with the Working Group of Christian Churches (ACK) and the Alemannia Fan IG. Around 25.000 visitors are expected. 15.000 tickets have already been sold.
Festive Christmas carols and Alemannia fan chants
The program with festive Christmas carols and Alemannia fan chants will be accompanied for the first time by the Musikverein Hahn. Pius Celebration, the St. Katharina Aachen-Forst Children's and Youth Choir and the Gospelhaus Choir will also be there again. The actors on stage and the audience are once again supported vocally by five amateur choirs, which are spread out across the tiers. These are the VHS choir Leichte Klänge, the Weinstock choir from the parish of ChristusUnser Bruder, the Cantabile Baesweiler choir, the Lucivers Würselen-Broichweiden choir and the Aachen pop choir. In addition, the legendary singer Jupp Ebert contributes to the special atmosphere at Tivoli with the Alemannia anthem. Pastor Monica Schreiber and stadium announcer Robert Moonen will again share the moderation. Volunteers distribute candles and song books to all visitors free of charge.
The idea of singing Christmas carols together in the football stadium has now found favor in many cities. "What is special about Aachen is that we are also concerned with the Christian message," says Siegmar Müller, pastor of the Free Evangelical Church in retirement and since 2013 the initiator of the Christmas carols on the Tivoli. This will be made clear again this year by the reading of the Christmas story, the entry of the Peace Light from Bethlehem and the ringing of the Aachen Cathedral bells. With a view to the war in Ukraine, a short conversation with Pastor Horodezkij from the Catholic Ukrainian community is also planned on the stage. Lord Mayor Sibylle Keupen has taken over the patronage and will speak a word of welcome.
